* SOFTWARE NEEDED TO PLAY *

This map requires a source port with increased limits. It was mainly tested with Ironwail (highly recommended).

The map also seems to work with Quakespasm and KexQuake (the Nightdive rerelease), although the former experiences minor sound issues during one section. 

Any other source ports are untested. 


* INSTALLATION *

1. Extract the contents of the .zip file to \Quake\id1\maps. If using KexQuake, extract the contents to \Quake\rerelease\id1\maps instead.

2. Launch Quake and select the desired difficulty by opening the console and typing "skill" (without quotation marks) followed by 0 (Easy), 1 (Normal), 2 (Hard), or 3 (Nightmare). 

3. Type "map spasp1" (without quotation marks) in the console.

4. Enjoy (or don't).


* COMMENTS * 

This is my first Quake map. It started out as an exercise in making encounters as engaging as possible while being limited to low-tier base monsters, but as the map grew in size I abandoned this restriction in order to avoid monotony.


* CONSTRUCTION *

Build Time      	: November 2023 - March 2024 (a few updates released in April 2024)
Texture WAD used	: base.wad, idbase_mega.wad, tools.wad
Software used   	: TrenchBroom 2023.1 and 2024.1, ericw-tools, ne_q1spCompilingGui
Known Bugs		: In rare cases, certain triggers do not trigger monster aggro (the monsters will still aggro if they see you)

- Further balanced skill levels in an attempt to make the map easier (mainly on skills 0 and 1, but skill 2 also got some adjustments)

- Added two more secrets

- Added and moved a few brushes

- Added the title of the map to the worldspawn message key (thanks to h4724)

- Made some minor texture and lighting adjustments

- Made the section with the moving platform less tedious

- Tweaked a particular monster jump so that it works properly with Copper

- Shortened and sped up the final elevator to potentially reduce the chances of a bug occurring

1.3:

- Tweaked the cramped encounter with the Shambler and Death Knight to allow the player to decide when to start the fight (this encounter rarely went as intended, and should now be more approachable)

- Made some minor changes to a few encounters on skill 0

- Made a specific secret easier to get to on skill 0

- Made some minor texture adjustments (mostly on the pipes and cliffs outside)

- Added a message to a door that was missing one
