DEVELOPMENT
================================================================

Alright, so this map has been roughly a month 1/2 - 2 months in the making, and now that I'm done with it I feel a mixture of relief, sadness, anxiety, and profound joy.

After completing my first Quake map, Bizarre Bazaar (check it out!), I immedietly jumped into my next. Perhaps not the best idea, as I just started building without a goal or direction. I just know that I loved the Kingpin texture pack that I had found, and wanted to make a map with it. A tad overzealous on my part.

The starting area was the first thing I made (however it would go through tons of texture iterations), inspired by a piece of concept art I had found on ArtStation.com. This concept (HellHole - Throne Room by Stefan Celic) when mixed with Kingpin's textures, would give off an eclectic style of art deco and stone work. Of course this was the area that guests would see. The employee areas (kitchen, hallways, garage) were less grand in nature, instead going for a more mundane grey look.

As far as the design, I tried to take the feedback from my previous map's reviews. So I made it a goal to include more ambushes and wave fights. Also, several people responded positively to some of my scripted moments in that map, so I decided to up the amount this time (might have gone a bit overboard).

However, my choice to use the soldier enemies proved a little costly. After comparing what worked in my previous map (which used the medievil enemy set), I immediately found my issue. The army enemies lack a melee character that keeps you on the move the same way a group of knights do. I looked into creating a custom character, but decided that I needed to focus on finishing/releasing my current map. I may take on that challenge later.

All in all, I had a great time doing this, and intend on doing more. Each one presents a new learning experience that I have found invaluable in my development as a game designer. Ultimately, I'd like to release my own title, but I won't until I know I've got my skills as a dev down.

And each map, is another step closer.

Thanks for playing!
