Iris Doors on Walls - by DarkVein

TEXTURES: Use whatever texture you wish that seems right

ENTITIES: func_door

WHAT TO DO: requires 8 func_doors, first 4 will function like you'd expect...
make two of htem like a standard middle split door
make the next two the same, except vertical, now you have a door that will do a
pretty lowsey iris door, so, this sucks eh?
the next four.. this is hard for me to explain. It's a very very simple principle, but
Like so many things, hard to word out.
<note, I use WC, I'll try to be general, but forgive me if I stray.>
Now, you make a 'Wedge' Brush (triangle, ramp, diagnal slice of a rectangular solid, whatever)
and make it thin (say, 4 units wide). and fit it so that it covers 1/2 the doorspace diagnaly.
(that make sence? noone in irc ever understands me hehe, and do i use parenthasis alot? and
do I suck at spelling? I'll take that as a yes.) now, make it a func_door, and set it's
angle, I used up or down because it's alot easier to debug should you screw up :) But if
you're feeling semi-daring, or you have some devious plan for an awsome looking door opening,
you can set the angle for the door to something on the x and y axis. Now, take this cute little
3d-triangle door you just made, and rotate it 180 degrees so it mirrors the other door diagnaly.
now, change the angle so it points the other way (these are suppoced to open away from the center,
just so i don't get mail about this.) now, pick both brushes and rotate them 90 degrees in the
same manner. and set their angles again, both pointing away from the center.
Now your door should open very nicely. (you may want to stick wedges in the corners of that
square you cut out so it looks nice, like a hexagon cut-out). but there's a damned good chance
it's gonna close at bad times, if you made your door the size i made mine, you can set the
delay time for the diagnal peices to close at 7 and the horizontal and vertical ones to 10...
but if you know how to use those LIP values right, by all means go ahead. I spent about 20 minutes
trying to tweek these things to close right, and I personaly couldn't get the LIPs to work, but
If you can, please do, make your life easier, and let you set the closing time to whatever you want.
and now, you have an iris door stuck in your wall, pretty spiffy eh?

OPTIONS/NOTES: Ok, Notes eh? alrighty, You should be able to disect this thing and figure it out
if my ramblings above aren't clear (If they are
there may be something wrong with you hehehhe). If you use worldcraft, I suggest using hte rmf
as they load a heck of alot faster for wc than maps. also, i find it difficult to get through
these doors without jumping, so it might be a good idea do sort of use them as an archway
entrance, like a beef-ed up 4way door. remove the bottom brushes (that's 3, 2 diag, one vert).
and submerge the others partway in the floor to cover for the possible gap.
This is my first submission to QL:ed. I'm with QMT (the Quake Movie Team).
ehm, stuff, hmm, looking forward to quake2 and stuff, ehm... ya that's it i guess.
(btw, my name's up top hehe, I'm on gamesnet alot)
