Chapter III

Getting your mission to run

Introduction

Wow... we've gotten pretty far, haven't we? You've created your map, edited
your .ini file to the way you want it, and now you're ready to play it! And
maybe if it's good, you can put it up on the internet so everybody has the
opportunity to play it.

Getting your mission to run isn't that hard, so just bear with me. There are
two parts. The first tells how people without the Covert Operations (v.1.07
to 1.19) get their mission to run. The second tells how people with the
Covert Operations (v.1.20) get their mission to run.

ALSO, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING HERE, OR ANYTHING NOT
LISTED HERE, DO NOT EMAIL ME. INSTEAD, ASK THEM AT OUR WEB BOARD AT

1. Original C&C (v.1.07 - v.1.19)

Ok... now it is time to put your map into the game Command & Conquer. We
will NOT be using MixMan.

You must first decide on a mission which to replace. If in your mission, you
play as GDI, you must find a GDI mission to replace. If you play as Nod in
your mission, you must replace a Nod mission. Also, if you want to be able
to build everything, you must find a mission with a high tech level (a level
far into the game). Search for a saved game somewhere near the end of the
game for the side which your mission plays as. For instance, lets say I
found a saved game on the last level of GDI, and in my mission you play as
GDI. This is what I would do: First, I would load up the saved game. Don't
beat it, but hit the ESC [Escape] key. In the box which comes up, there
should be a set of numbers on the right side. They might read like this:

SCXYYEZ

   Where X can be a G or a B
Where YY can be a value of 01 - 15
   Where Z can be an A, B, or C.

So some examples might look like this:

SCG07EA
SCB13EC
SCB02EA
SCG05EC
SCG15EB

And the list goes on and on... Remember the set of numbers and letters above,
write it down, or do something so you know what it is later. This is the
mission you are going to replace. Now go to the DOS prompt. Copy the .MAP
and .INI file of your mission to the Command & Conquer directory. Go to the
Command & Conquer directory (the one you just copied the .MAP and .INI files
to). Do you still remember that set of numbers and letters? You do? Good. If
you don't, go look at it again. Ok.. now rename the prefix of the .MAP and
.INI files of your mission to the set of numbers and letters. For example,
if the set was SCB06EA, I would rename the .MAP file to SCB06EA.MAP and the
.INI file to SCB06EA.INI. Now rename the .MAP extension to a .BIN extension.
So, in the end, I would have SCB06EA.BIN and SCB06EA.INI, with both of these
files located in the Command & Conquer directory. Now start up C&C, and load
up the saved game (the one on the mission your mission replaced). Hit the
ESC key, Abort the Mission, then Restart it. When the mission restarts, it
should be playing your mission.

2. Covert Operations (v.1.20)

Copy the .ini and .map files of your mission to the Covert Ops directory.

Now rename them:

SCXYYEA.INI AND SCXYYEA.MAP

Where X is G for a GDI mission, and a B for a Nod mission.
   Where YY can be
      20, 21, 24 - 35, 42 - 49, 51 - 99 for GDI missions
      22 - 29, 34, 36, 38 - 99 for Nod missions.
Rename the .MAP extension to a .BIN file.

Start up Covert Ops (C&C) and go to the New Missions menu. Your mission
should be on the list of missions. Just choose it and play it.

3. You're done!

That's all there is to creating a mission! Now you know how to make a map,
edit the .ini file, and implement your mission into the game.
