i resized a model down and now it floats. i tried to translate on the z axis. no luck. any ideas?

check your setsize call.
(remember: the collisions are aligned to the absmin position of the bbox if they do not match a hull size, thus x+y sizes should always match either player or shambler, while z is much less of an issue)
