my real
name is bill j. mcclendon, a 32-year old (soon to be 33) happily married
man that lives in hayward, california USA. i'm currently attending california
state university, hayward in pursuit of my baccalaureate in english;
i was pursuing a computer science minor, but i rapidly discovered
that i don't have the capability of producing object-oriented programming.
(i can read it; i just can't code it.) my interests are my wife (hubba
hubba) and what i can do with computers, be it games or graphics or HTML
or hardware or whatever. i like to learn new things (when i can understand
them, of course), and having access to computers and the 'net gives me
the ability to access quite a lot of information, along with interesting
fields of study. related to that, i read quite a bit -- about four books
a week, on average, in addition to all the required reading i do for school.
1.
cars. not so
much any more, but i was young and stupid once... ;)
2.
relationships
with girls and/or women (and i'm still re-earning this facet of my nick
from time to time).
3.
computers --
when you do a lot of "do it yourself" work with no manual and no experience,
you're bound to learn how to reinstall a lot. the nice thing is that learning
it the hard way definitely makes it easier the next time around... and
yes, there nearly always is a next time.
4.
mm. other things
that i can't really talk about... give me a call in a couple of years when
the statute of limitations expires. ;)
personally,
i think Quake2 rocks. i think it's a little rough still, but i'm really
looking forward to the point release... and not for the deathmatch stuff.
i made some observations about the AI to John Cash (my clanmate in clan311
in an email, but i don't know if my observations (can't really call them
suggestions because i wasn't really suggesting, if you know what i mean)
will be incorporated. i kind of hope they will, but i'm certainly not expecting
them to. (got my fingers crossed, though.)
i
continue to be stunned at the quality of the levels being released, especially
after Q2 has been out for such a short time. i had thought that it would
take longer than this for quality SPQ2 stuff to come out, and i'm pleasantly
surprised that it hasn't. two things i want to see really badly
-- are bigger, longer levels and multi-level missions with a good plot.
i've got sort of a plot that i wouldn't mind seeing made into make a four
or five level episode kind of thing; if you're a talented author looking
for a plot line, let's talk:)

what
i like best about being a webmaster is the POWAH! hahaha no, seriously,
what i like best is being able to contribute to the community (more specifically,
the level authors) in a way that i think i might be pretty good at. i don't
have a lot of talent at Quake and Quake2 editing; it's really time-consuming
and i just don't have the time (or, let's be honest, the patience) to complete
a quality level. also, i had a lot of difficulty converting from
2d editing to 3d editing, and my learning curve was pretty steep. if i
had a month off from work and school, with no other responsibilities, i'd
love to take a crack atmaking an SPQ2 level.
what
i dislike? mm. sometimes i don't have time to update for a while (like,
say, two weeks or so) because of RL stuff, and i feel guilty as hell, because
i know from the counter how many people come by each day. it's even worse
when i don't even have the time to update telling people i don't have the
time to update... i mean, my site is a two-way street, after all. without
visitors, i might as well keep the HTML on my hard drive.
ahh, now, you're gonna get me in trouble with this question. :) for the
record,
i don't really have one all-time favorite author, because each author does
stuff differently, and each author has his or her own strengths and weaknesses.
i like Iikka Keranen's
work for his attention to detail and custom textures, i like Roger
"Ace" Staines' work for the odd themes that
he can make work, i like Neil Manke's
stuff
for
just the work that goes into them, i like Marcus
Dromowicz' stuff for the monster counts and
the epic scale of the levels, i like Matt
Sefton's stuff because he makes some excellent
"base" levels, and
the
list just goes on and on and on...
as to
my favorite Quake1 level, i really don't have one. i've got a bunch i really
love and would play over and over, but no single
stand-out
favorite. |
