Ugh, tell me about it. I think only a handful of those games even come close to really holding up visually. It was never quite my thing, even then, but I eventually grew to accept it; it wasn’t until the Dreamcast/PS2/Gamecube/Xbox that I was like “alright, now this is okay.”

I always enjoyed Wrecking Crew, though, and would love to see a sequel here, perhaps in the DK’94 vein (yes, I know I said that about Ice Climber, too. Still holds true).

As for Wrecking Crew ’98 not being released here, this is one of those things the Virtual Console service is perfect for, yet Nintendo completely squandered. Hopefully they’ll decide to rectify that (along with the “must remain exactly as-is” rule they only adhere to sometimes) to bring it over for the Wii U.

I mean, I still liked 2D games a lot back then (and I still do now), but the world was obsessed with the potential of blocky-jointy-ugly polygons at the time. Bunch of stupid people saying stupid things about games like Earthbound and Torneko: The Last Hope looking like crap while embracing piles of ugly boxes vaguely in the shape of people.
