Any chance Kraid was rendered, and not drawn by hand? It really made an impression on me at the time of being great sprite and animation work.

His sprite always seemed more three dimensional than the other sprites in the game. Perhaps I’m just remembering what the scaled-down, fake-out Kraid looked like; maybe his sprite really was a scaled-down tile of the big one.
