Lower Norfair…I remember it well. That shaft with the giant Ridley head is like the only room in the game where the secret passages aren’t exposed by the X-ray visor, so until the last time I played I missed the fake wall in the upper left corner leading to a safe path back to the elevator and ended up going back through the (still full) rising lava room to get out of Norfair.

That is not a fun path to take in reverse.

Did the pirates transfer the Metroid to Tourian? My reading has always been that it escaped from captivity, continued to develop by floating around elsewhere and sucking up life force, and then homed in on Tourian because of Samus’ presence. But I could be wrong!

I actually never read that rock formation as representing Ridley — the one at lower Norfair’s entrance is pretty specific in its representation, but the landmark in question is more of a generic monster-type, like the face-entrance before Kraid’s lair. I like how they designed it using preexisting tiles!

They opened the container in Tourian and Ridley keep it as a reward for taking it from the space station. He was going to melt it in the heat of Lower Norfair to make a tiny statue.
