I assume this sort of thing has declined as Japanese designers have become more aware of the international connotations, but it still pops up even in more modern stuff. Usopp in One Piece, for example, comes perilously close.

I do remember that it wasn’t as useful as the other weapons weapons, especially on Difficult.

I had this crossed up in my mind with using the Bubble Lead on Flash Man. The old NES Game Atlas recommend using the Bubble Lead on him, but it does the same amount of damage as the Mega Buster.
