How To Defend Bam4

2Fort5 All Over Again?
Bam4 is structured pretty much identically to 2Fort5, thus it should be defended similarly but not identically. All major entrances and passageways are much larger than 2Fort5, making it a shade easier for the offence. If your defence is not set, you can fall victim to chain (consecutive) capping rather easily. Thus it's imperative that your defence gets off to a good start. However with a good plan and some practice, it's actually quite easy to defend.

Ramp Room Soldier

This is one of the hardest defensive soldier positions to play, as chances are you’ll be concussed for 95% of the map. Thus you must make sure you call nearly every enemy incoming via lift or spiral and damage as many enemies as you can. Your job is not to slaughter everyone who comes in (as unless you’re extremely good, this would be impossible). You must simply make things easier for the rest of the defence by calling incomings and damaging enemies.

Demoman Piping Lift

Whilst not being as difficult as the Well6 attic demoman position, the Bam4 demoman position is much more difficult than 2Fort5. This demoman should spread his pipes out at the base of the lift and detonate them to destroy people coming down the lift. It’s critical that the ramp room soldier is competent at calling most of the enemies who come down the lift, as the lift demo doesn’t have long to react when people come down the lift. This demoman must also take note of any "Flag In Danger" calls, as he's often relied upon to clean up anyone who manages to take the flag.

Soldier In Basement

This guy should stand in the main basement area (or foyer). His main task is to dispose of any heavy classes who manage to make it past the ramp room, spiral and lift defence. If this guy gets killed often, then chances are that the sentrygun will be destroyed quite a lot. You should allocate this position to the best defensive soldier on your team, as it’s critical that he’s alive and in position for most of the map.

Flag Room Engineer

Sentry gun placement is absolutely critical here. If you build your SG in the wrong spot, scouts will be able to take the flag unimpeded. There’s two spots where your SG can be; it should be built as far back as possible right up next to the back wall of the flag room. It should be built just to the right or just to the left of the flag. In this position, scouts are usually killed before they can even touch the flag.

Your dispenser can go in one of two spots. Either build it in the “secret” passageway or at the end of the flag room corridor that the flag is not located. It can be used very effectively if positioned here, giving the basement soldiers more time to kill scouts due to it’s impedance capabilities and can also be used like a pipe trap.

Extra Defense

This last defender can be changed at the discretion of the leader of the defence. I usually start with him as a soldier at the base of the spiral. If your lift demo is very good, the lift should be virtually impassable. Thus the offence will stream down the spiral. Having this guy here greatly reduces the traffic coming into the main basement (foyer).

However if the opposition is flooding you with scouts, perhaps switch this guy to a second engineer and have him build his gun up on the ledge near the entrance to the “secret” passageway. Then have him roam the front of the base or attack. Having two engineers in the basement can often clutter it up and make your team very vulnerable to attacks from enemy spies.
