Capture the flag

10 points per capture (flags drop when carriers die. 45 seconds and flags return)

Evaluation:

This is a nice map. I had a pretty good time playing it, and the reasons were clear: it was built well, and has enough room to move. Of course my only complaint about this sucker is the usual, not enough signage, but, the design and layout of the map offsets this fact enough to still give the map good playability, in spite of this fact. The theme is only carried out enough to compliment the map, but I don't think the author intended much more than this. Not ground-breaking, but at least there was enough there for you to identify with.

The layout of this map is actually pretty clean, and reminds me a lot, in theory, of Well. The objectives are the same, and the routes and general approaches were definitely apparent in it's design. Needless to say, things were laid out in a pretty good format, and once you learned your way around, you could use everything as it was intended. Getting around was pretty easy, and with the connectivity that the author supplied, if you couldn't get in and out in a timely fashion, it was because you had to take time to remember which passage led where. If there were only a few more well placed signs, this map would really kick some butt. The fact that this map is a CTF format makes remembering where things are pretty simple. It's this same simplicity that makes the map work. It's not cutting edge, by any means, but it looks good, plays good, and is fun overall to play. Some people complained about the addition of the underwater tunnels leading into the bases, and the respective flag rooms, but these were essential when the player numbers started to climb, and people needed room to move. The author definitely gave thought to scalability when making this map.

To really kick some serious ass on this map, you need to use teamwork. It's not essential to overall success, but if used well, you can climb the points pretty quick. Being able to score by yourself is good, if only for those occasions when the rest of your team doesn't have a clue what teamwork is. The author has made sure that all classes get their shot at this one, and there's plenty of opportunities to use them. There are definite strategic values to this, and you'll find that there's always a few different ways of skinning the cat, so to speak. I think that everyone will find something good in this map, and should be able to have fun on it.

Verdict:

Definite download! I can really recommend this map. It's simplicity is the key to it's success, and you'll have fun on it. There should have been a little more thought on directions, but overall, the map can overcome this. I look forward to more from this author.
