Get to the other teams bases and steal back your presents!

Scoring:

Get to the other teams bases and steal back your presents!

Evaluation:

This map had good areas, and it had bad. Unfortunately, the bad areas were the places that most of the fighting and running around were done. The main areas of all the bases were quite good, but it seems that all the connecting routes were just thrown in there.

While playing, there was one common complaint: "ooops! wrong base again!". While this was laughable at times, it got old fast, and people just got plain frustrated. There definitely could have been way more lighting put in both the slime tunnels, as well as the underwater passages connecting the bases. r_speeds were low, so that was a plus. The authors theme is supposed to be a Christmas one, but other than presents, I couldn't see this carried out at all. This is an aspect more authors need to pay attention too. Immerse us in your theme, go all out, we'll thank you for it!

I have to stress this again about maps, signage, signage, signage! Not knowing which direction you're going in, especially in the dark, is a very aggravating thing. The only thing that was marked in this map, were the cap points! Besides the fact that the cap points also flashed, this was all you had. More times than I care to mention, did I find another teams member wandering into our base by mistake. Getting around this map isn't too too bad, but the narrow passageways, walkways, and ladders can get old in a hurry. This is also too easy to turn these areas into Spam-city.

Working as a team on this map is on average, and you can definitely find good use for pretty much all of the classes, except the sniper, who's really got no place long enough in which to use his skills. Speed and/or firepower seemed to be the law of the land in this baby. There wasn't a whole lot of strategy to be had here either, as the teamwork aspect was lacking a bit, due to the whole "run like a bastard" theme. With larger teams, this would work a bit better, but then again, those narrow corridors and passages would cause many problems in getting your team around. Also, due to the rather straightforward design of the passages, mowing other people down was quite easy. A little bit of either maze-work, or corners would've helped this immensely.

Verdict:

This map is fun...for a while, after that, things get a bit aggravating. Since this is the authors first released map, I wish him luck on future projects. His skills are only going to improve, and I look forward to more from him. Give this one a try for some 3 fort action, but don't put it at the top of your list.
