Seeing the light.
I wasn't one to play online games too much. But on occasion I would start up MPlayer and download the updates, damn updates. After a playing Quake DM on MPlayer I was looking around some Quake related sites and I saw there is a new internet play client called Quakeworld. Being the person I am, I went and downloaded the QW client and installed it. At the time, it came with Gamespy, version 1.3 if I remember correctly. After I started up Gamespy I was impressed at all the servers you had to choose from. I instantly went to the id DM tab because at the time that's all I knew was available besides CTF, which never really did anything for me. About 2 weeks past and I finally went and downloaded the Team Fortress Mod, version 2.5 at the time. After going to a few servers, I became addicted to TF and whatever amount I would play wasn't enough.
Recruited
After loggin well over 10
hours a week fragging on servers I saw alot of people advertising clans,
so I decided I would try and get in one. SGAT
was the first one I joined,
a newbie clan as I would put it now. After 3 weeks
of being in SGAT I got well acquainted with one member of the fold, [SgAt]Assassin
was his name at the time. Before even playing a match Assassin and I left
SgAt to join a clan he was co-founding. [SR] Smurfs Rebellion it was called.
SR was also a newbie clan that hadn't played
a match before. Assassin and I playing on public servers very often had
found us as the recruiters for SR. We would find a lot of people willing
to join, but no one with the caliber of play we were looking for until
one night we ran into a couple lpb's. We then recruited
them and after 2 weeks took the 5 lpb's we had recruited and formed [TB]
Tech Bots.
Leadership
Assuming lead of [TB] I began recruiting and scheduling matches. After gaining a handful of more lpb's, making the total 10, and around 4 hpb's we were set for our first match. We had joined the IGL at the time and were scheduled to face [MiD] Midgar. Later that week we then learned that MiD had dropped from the IGL so we wouldn't be playing that week. My members wanting a match badly, I contacted MiD and setup a non-league match for 3 days later. The time came but we never played MiD but we played {VH} Valhalla, and seccessor clan from MiD. The outcome was in our favor. After we played a couple weeks of IGL action going 2-0 when we were faced with the horrible problem of having no server.
Leagues
Sometime during the TB reign I decided to start a league of my own. ASTFL it was called. It was similar to IGL, yet had a few differences to make it a fun and competitive league. It had started as a tournament style league.
Joining forces
After talking abit with {VH}Odin,
we had settled a merger and united our forces
into {VH}. With the heavy man power we brought to {VH} and the
great server they help, we were a force to
be rekon with. Co-leading with Odin
we beat clans like MP, DN, AoA. After about 6 months on playing with VH,
around 100 official games, real-life hit me and I was forced
away from TF. I had kept only my league running, everything else
was put on hold.
Ressurection
After about 3 weeks on inactivity, I had finally returned to {VH} and everything was back to normal. Then not much after {VH}Odin anouced his inactivity and crowned me Leader of Valhalla. After 3 matches Odin retook leadership from me saying I wasn't doing well enough and disbanned VH. This hit me hard. Crushing something I had tried very hard to build up. Alot of VH members joined clans like FLiPZ, APr and others. I had to make a decision, but what would it be?
Rebirth
After debating over a few days, I had sorted through all the invatations I possesed and chose to join [Ht] Hostile Takeover. Ht was a fairly competitive clan at the time. After a few weeks passed, Ht recruited a few key players and made us strong.
Ending
With real life stepping in the door again, I was forced to give up ASTFL which had become one of the biggest TF leagues around. Currently this is were I am presently so I don't have much more to say at the current time.
