Sentry gun positions |
Enemy sentry guns are likely to be placed in 3 or 4 places.
1) The Ramp room. Always one. Theyre damn hard to get, as theyre often well defended as well. Best method, get underneath one, hiding under the ramp above you, and nail it. Alternatively, call in the soldiers!
The Ramp Room [RR]2) The Basement - in 2 places, the flag room or the bottom of the stairs. Remember to use the scan button loads in the basement - so you know in advance and can plan route accordingly.
The Basement3) The little room at the top of the stairs - This gun is placed to kill people on the stairs. More dangerous is a demoman placed here, spiral pipebombing - concuss and run! More likely is a gun in the main room at the top. This gun will be in one of the corners, aimed into the room. Try and run past it, and out of the grate.
4) This one does not really affect scouts - A gun on the snipers loft. Every soldier rocket jumps on this level, and the gun is here for them. It may be placed in the passageway from here to the main room, aiming at both.
Capping |
The best method of entry to the enemy base is via the bridge. Take the water if enemy snipers are kicking ass, or if the enemy are guarding the bridge well. When crossing the bridge, remember to strafe and jump, to avoid snipers. Take the time to chuck a concussion grenade into the sniping loft - The bastards deserve it :) From the enemy entrance - into the ramp room! This room is always well guarded. You can guarantee there to be at least one Sentry Gun (see tactics page for how to kill guns!). If there are enemy present, concussion them, and make a dash up the ramps, over the bridge, and into the lift room. Here, turn round, and jump down the shaft, into the corner. I recommend doing the silent lift drop. Which is basically sliding down the crack in the wall of the elevator shaft. This makes no noise so it does not alert the enemy you are coming. It also does you no damage! See demo.
Jump down shaft with use of silent lift drop.
Down in the basement use scan lots, to see demomen, soldiers, and sentry guns. (Dont just use scan 10, 30 or 100, Bind keys into scan 150, and 200. There are some instances when you need different ranges.) Plan your route to avoid them There are 2 ways into the flag room. Take the nearest one, grab the flag and go. Remember, the stairs have 4, thats FOUR corners. On the 3rd, prime a grenade, as you round the 4th, throw, then move back. This will take any defense out (especially demomen, as they will detonate when they see your glow stepping back avoids this..), and get you out ok. In the main room, turn right, and out of that grate, out the door, and into the water! The water is best on the way back, as it is far safer. Being fast, you dont drown. Check to look behind you when you are going along underwater, and nail any pursuit. If no ones following you, BE SCARED! If youre not being followed, it means the crafty demomen (I hope none are reading this :) !) has gone over land, and piped the stairs! Soon as youre clear GO CAP! Thats a scouts job, thats what you should now be able to do!.
Cap that baby!
Notes |
Possible concussion jumps - out of water, and onto balcony.
When you are going down the lift shaft, it is possible to do it silently, without losing any health! Do this by going in, then turning round, and jumping into the corner of the shaft, above the lift. If you do it right you should stop and hover above the lift itself, then drop gently. See this demo to see how its done! See the demos:

MEGATF |
I do not personally play mega TF, but all the above tactics remain the same. There is though the added bonus of jet jump! Use it wisely, you have but a few! I advise
1) Onto their sniper loft, or up the
ramps.
2) Back up the lift shaft (with flag!)
3) Onto your sniper balcony.
4) To avoid any pursuit. It is always fun to fly over a load
of pipebombs, and nail the poor demoman from behind! :)
Cheers, Meph
