Defense
This strategy works best in normal TeamFortress for the reason that you have caltrops and the concussion grenades can blow through walls. (not literally, they just feel the effects on the other side) Anyways here's my strategy on being a defensive scout. |
Flag Protection |
Scouts in normal TF have such great speed that you can catch up to any
class (even another scout) with good maneuverability. First off, when going up or down the
flag stairway (ramps) in 2fort5 you should strafe in the direction of the turn for quicker
and more efficient turns. If you don't do this, you find yourself, when going up the flag
ramps, hitting the wall before every turn. This slows you down quite a bit. You can catch
scouts this way, who don't use this turning method. As far as getting those kills you all love, I don't use concs for the reason that when in close combat, you'll usually end up concussioning yourself as well as the other player. If you find yourself in a circling battle, where you and the other player are constantly circling, drop some caltrops! This way, they run over them and go much slower, but make sure you remember where they are and don't run over them. After you do this, just keep randomly strafing in different directions, making random movements. Doing so will keep you from getting yourself killed from the fragments of a rocket, grenade, or other large blast area weapon. As far as them using hand-grenades, if you hear them bouncing, run to the other side of the player, and you won't be harmed. I'll send in demo's of this as soon as I have time to make them. |
Protecting the main room (main ramps) as a scout |
Many people mistake me as a spy when I'm sitting atop the main ramps in
2fort5. Simply because they aren't used to seeing a scout on ramp defense. If one of your
teammates alerts you to an incoming enemy, jump down and launch a conc into the large
hallway leading to the main room. Try to get close to the doorway. If successful, you will
know it from the poor bastard who is now walking erratically around in the main
lobby (entrance area). Now is the time to go in and nail his sorry ass. Plain and simple. If you see someone coming in, from your pirch atop the ramps, drop down behind them, and they will most likely not notice you. Pursue them while you rain nails on the enemy. They die 80% of the time. If someone happens to get past you, use your speed to follow and nail them, if they are going to the sniper tower, they will pay more attention to making the attempt to kill the snipers instead of killing you. Most of the time they think the nails are coming from the snipers, and not a brave scout. |
Protecting the Sniper nest |
I find this task to be most boring, when attended to 100% of your time. Most of the time you'll see a rocketjumper come up to kill the snipers, and you'll get caught in the crossfire. Sometimes you will be noticed and killed first. The best way to protect the sniper nest is to stay in an area where their snipers can't get to you, and they can't see you and spam you with grenades or rockets. Most importantly, stay clear of the back walls of the nest, rocket spam is the largest cause of death in that area. And keep notice of grenades that are launched up to the tower. By the time a nonrocketjumping enemy has gotten to the tower by the normal route, they are injured and easier to take out. This is where you nail them. |
