Sentries
Sentries are a scout's worst nightmare. There is basically no way to get past a properly positioned level 3 sentry gun for a scout. The only way, is if his stronger teammates destroy it. In a clan, this is usually what happens. However, when playing online with other people, things are different. The communication isn't so good. And sometimes people are just generally selfish assholes who don't care.
| What to do: There are several things you can do: Use concs. You should do this if the sentry is close to you, but behind a wall or some kind of obstruction so it can't see you until you come really close... The concs won't damage the SG very much, but they disorient it to some extent. As soon as you conc, finish it off fast with your SNL. If the sentry is in an open area, assuming you know where it is, approach it slowly,
staying behind the corner or doorway. Come out slowly so you can just see it's muzzle. It
should not get a proper lock on you to fire. Start shooting at it. It will probably start
firing at you then. Move back into the corner out of it's site. Slowly repeat the process
again. If there are enemies around, instead of slowly approaching the sentry, run out of the corner quickly, shoot at it. When it starts shooting at you, wait 1-2 seconds and quickly jump back far into the corner. You have to move fast and far or you will get hit by the rocket's radius damage. By now, you should be attacked by the enemy team. Throw concs around where you were standing, and run away. Wait until after they explode, run back to the same place, and attack the sentry again in the same fashion. If all else fails, try and get your teammates to destroy it. If they are unable to, change classes and do the job yourself. After killing it, instead of going for the flag as you usually would as a scout. Inform your teammates the sentry is down, and guard the area from the engineer so that he cannot build another sentry, until another scout or someone going for the flag comes. Escort them in and out. If you get killed, don't forget to change classes. |
| Bottom Line: As soon as you see a SG, tell your teammates about it. Then proceed to trying to kill it yourself with the above steps. Once it's down, inform your teammates about it again. If you absolutely feel you cannot destroy it as a scout, change classes and destroy it then. Inform your teammate, let them get the flag. If they don't, do it yourself. |

MEGA-TF
Sentries are a bit different in MEGA-TF. They are still as deadly. However, they take a little longer to start firing. Use this to your advantage. If you jetjump past one, it's very unlikely it'll ever hit you at all. Depending of course on it's position etc.
Also, you have allot more gadgets, it is much easier for you to kill the sentry as a scout in MTF than in plain TF.
