TF History: BOSSK
As told by BOSSK
I first heard of Quake around
April of '97 but didn't pay much attention due to my thinking that Duke
Nukem was a much better game, playing with friends like Romeo and 69er.
In early August '97 I would realize Quake was the most r337 game. And so
I played single player on my 486 until a week later I got my Sprynet ISP
and my 14.4. I WAS ROCKIN'!! My brother MrBeefy told me to get Quake Spy
and and I did, and so it begins...
I played DM online for about
a week before I found my clan {=DK=} Dark Knights and ICQ. We were pretty
good, had a record of 25-3 or something. The i found that they played CTF
also, so I quickly went and got the goods. McKinley Base becoming my favorite.
level I grew on the game quickly. At the end of August my family and I
went to Reno Nevada for 2 weeks, and when I got back I found an e-mail
saying {=DK=} had disbanded. I was kinda confused at the time not knowing
what it meant, heh. But I found out what it did mean not knowing I would
hear it for a LONG time.
In early Sept. '97 I went
to stay the weekend out at my MrBeefy's apartment and while he was at work
I found a game on his P90 called Team Fortress. I started playing and found
it more interesting than CTF. I had to write down all the classes so I
could remember what else I could play. I quickly took up engineer and that's
all I would play. I didn't know how to upgrade a sentry to level 2, but
at the time most people couldn't take out a level 1, so it worked out good.
4f4 became my favorite map and that's about all I played. Once I got back
home I DL'd TF and started playing. I played with Nuclear Rabbit on pubs
for a while, he taught me the basics.
In late Sept. '97 I met [EHA]Noodles
on a Rock1 server and I was playing engie (of course). I asked him about
recruiting and he said that EHA was just started a month ago I got his
UIN and tried out, I was EHAr for about 1 week and that was that. In December
of '97 EHA moved onto IRC realizing it was more efficient than ICQ. #EHA
was the only channel I hanged in, 'cause I didn't know anyone else. EHA
grew and I started not liking how Noodles was running things. Then I meat
[LP]·MilleniuS· on a pub and asked him about a tryout. He
told me to go to #LP and I did. I left EHA for LP in last Dec, holding
bad blood between us.
Now LP was the clan that
I really "learned" to play TF, they taught me how to upgrade guns and time
grens (which was still a secret). LP consisted of lot's of good people
like, MilleniuS, Kero, Smith69, Azulez, CiD, Redrum, free_mason, Dill-Hole,The
Hooded One, SightBlinder, Lazarus and a few others. LP was a kick ass clan
at the time, this also was the 2nd birth of LP and most of know what eventually
happens to clans that form again. LP played scrims against MP and other
clans. I was rather happy when we got to play EHA, we won like 5-2 on 2f4.
Soon Dill-Hole released 2fort4r, and it was good. Then, on January 31,
1998 at 9:38PM est. the unthinkable happened, LP disbanded. This time it
hurt. I loved this clan they were the greatest bunch of guys I've ever
been able to play with at the time. But it ended, we went our separate
ways. fm went to [UN]. Kero to ]MP[. Az to 2[AA]. Mill to >V<. Hooded
to [cM], CiD to [DN], Smith69 to ·IC· (i believe), Redrum
to [BrB] (i think?), Dill to real life. And I just disappeared from ICQ/IRC
for a long time, not really knowing how to deal with what happened to LP.
I just pubbed for a while
until I met Nuclear Rabbit on a pub again in Feb. He was in [LLoD] Last
Line of Defense and he convinced me to join. I took up demoman and it quickly
became my favorite. class. Me still holding a grudge against EHA asked
them for a match, we played 'em, we won. It was pretty fun until early
Feb. when LLoD died, another disband clan. And it made me mad, but I started
to realize it happens. [Er187] Eruption187 asking if i wanted to join there
clan and I did, I met Mach3 (the leader). I hung on IRC more and in #MP
and talked with more people. Then, Er187 disband in late March. So I went
to the pubs again. I was playing some canyon1 and I met some ]AoA[ guy's
and they were AWESOME! I asked 'em what it stood for but I couldn't remember
for the life of me.
Then in April '98 I remember
this vividly, I was playing well6 on some server and ]AoA[Rommel and ]AoA[Ragnorok
were there. Rom piping the attic and Rag rr sold, and me just being a fool.
I asked what AoA stood for again and asked about tryouts, they said to
go to #]AoA[, and I did. I talked to Rag for a few days before I got my
tryout and of course I made it. I was so happy being AoAr, about as happy
as ever since LP disband. AoA was rockin''. Then on May 25, 1998
at 7:00PM est. I got this crazy idea for a demoman guild (after learning
about Kaizen, Paragon and TFRC). ·D5· started out slow but
grew in the coming months. Summer break came and AoA went inactive over
the summer so I decided to go find other clans for a temp. supply of fun.
I joined MC where I remained
for 1 week, but due to them not needing any more D players, I left. I looked
into DN, was hoping to join them. But before I tried out I got word that
CP was recruiting. So I went for them, I was CPr for 2 weeks. During that
time we beat EHA (heh) but I came to realizes again nobody in CP liked
me, and I didn't like them, so I quit before becoming full CP.
AoA came back from the break
and it just wasn't the same. LOTS of new recruits, hardly and old members
and within a month I noticed AoA was falling apart and then there was some
internal conflict inside the clan, and I left AoA. They disband 2 weeks
later.
And here I am now, although
no longer the leader of Det5 I'm still a member, heh. D5 is growing strong.
PlanetFortress elected us as the official demo guild of TF so it's rockin''.
We are being hosted by PF (http://www.planetfortress.com/det5).
We currently have 18 members and are playing in the IGL 5v5 league. That's
my history. =P
