Console Commands

Here are a quick list of commonly used console commands to make your gameplay easier. They're really meant for newbies who may not be aware of their binds or just may need a bit of help.

kill Type this and you suicide. Useful for certain situations, ie you're infected and want to die quickly or you fall into water and can't be bothered to swim all the way out.

name Use this to permanently change your multiplayer name. Useful if your name is (1)Player and you don't want to be tagged as a newbie.

connect Use this to connect to a server if you know it's IP address. Saves quitting and restarting the game.

retry If you try to connect to a server and fail after four retries, type this and it'll try again for you. Useful if you're connection failed because of temporary dodgy comms.

quit / exit Either of these will disconnect you from the server and return you to Windows. Useful just for getting out if you want to stop playing or find another server.

say / say_team Use these commands to communicate with other players. If you don't know what these commands are bound to and need to speak to somebody to ask for help or whatever, use say to talk to everyone and say_team to talk just to your team.

snapshot Type this and you will take a screencap of the current screen - it will be saved in your Half-Life directory as a bitmap image. Useful if you've done particularly well and want to save the moment.
