Introduction

Team Fortress is among the most popular and addicting Quake mods in existence.. The goal? Players of different classes team up and battle for frags, flags, and glory.

You won't find any maps or setup information here, you'll have to go to the Team Fortress site for that. What you will find are all sorts of strategies and tips to help you survive in TF.

There seems to be some misconception regarding TF in the general Quake community. It is NOT simply "deathmatch with classes". And there IS more to the MOD than just "the damn Sniper Rifle". Hopefully, this site will also put to rest some of these misconceptions and show what TF is really about: teamwork and strategy.

The information mentioned here is, for the most part, rather general. I admit, I don't know nearly as much about the Hwguy or Demoman as someone who plays them regularly. Also, veteran players are likely to know the tips mentioned here already. What this site does best, however, is be a guide to starting TF players. TF is, believe it or not, a rather complicated mod, requiring lots of experience and practice before one can really get good at it. Hopefully, this guide will help players mature in TF and be more of a benefit to their teams.

Getting Started

I'm assuming you have none of the necessary files for TeamFortress, aside from Quake itself. These brief instructions will show you what to get and where to get it once Quake is installed. If you are setting up a server you'll have to visit the linked sites below for details. Oncethese files are installed, you should be ready to play TeamFortress!

1. Get the Quakeworld Client
For more details on this file, go straight to the QuakeWorld site.

2. Get the Latest Gamespy Release (1.52)
For more details on this utility, go to the Gamespy Homepage.
The QuakeWorld client file above includes a version of GameSpy, but this isn't the latest version, and
most likely won't even have Quake 2 support, so be sure to upgrade as soon as possible.

3. Get the Latest TeamFortress Release (2.6)
This is the easiest version to deal with- a full installer that takes care of everything.
Visit the
TeamFortress Homepage for more details and files.
