Haven't updated for quite a bit. There's really no news anymore. I don't think anything much will be happening until TF2 comes out from here on. So until then don't expect much news from here.

I suggest you all check out all the strategies, tips, demos e.t.c. They have all been revised numerous times throughout the time they have been put up here, by all the people who have been reading them. So think of them as  a collection of tips and strategies from the TF community. Even if you consider yourself a really good TF player, I still suggest you look through some of the content and watch some of the demos. They will be helpful to you.

Finally! A button
After giving it some thought, I've decided to remove the spinning TF logo and replace it with a button that can be used to link to this site. You can also use it if you're stuck in someone else's frames.
If you feel that the button looks like a piece of sh*t that was stepped on, feel free to make a better one :P
You can link using the button directly from here. A usable example would be:

A couple of new tips in the tips section. Both submitted in by Dark Paladin. One of them is on using your concussion grenades effectively. He points out some ways of using them, that even I never thought of before, like using a conc under the sniper nest to conc out the snipers, while you're under it.
The other tip is on using your JetPack as a weapon. Bet you never thought of using it like this! Check it out to see what I mean.
Both tips, and more, can be found in the tips section. Remember, all tips are submitted by people like you who play TF as scouts. To submit your own, see the top of the tips page on how to do it.

Site of the day
Got this one in my inbox from Dark Paladin. It's the Panther XL joystick. It shows the features e.t.c.
Looks like a very good joystick that could replace the Keyboard/Mouse combo for many. It'll probably take some time to get used to though. Check it out here.

Friday at last! Whew, the last couple of days have been hectic for me. That's the excuse for the lack of updates. That and the fact that news is slowing down with Half-Life out and the anticipation of TeamFortress 2. (mmm...TF2 *drool*).

I've been poking around with HL editing and things are looking really good. The HL editing community  is just sitting around twiddling their thumbs, waiting for the source code. Help them all out by sending an email every hour to all the emails of valve you can get your hands on, saying "release the code now!!!". Just kidding! Don't do that. I'm sure they'll release it sometime soon. Then things will kick into gear.

Been a little while since the last update. News is slow now that Half-Life is out and everyone, including yours truly, is out and enjoying it. Now if only TF2 came out tomorrow by surprise...

Updated, well more like completely changed the Scout defense strategy. This change had been long overdue and I didn't get around to it. The reason for change is this: Before, I had said that the scout is not the best class to play defense with, and is quite useless for this. That was a while ago, and since then I have learned more. For one thing, the scout is allot better than I originally thought, for defense. I still however, do not recommend you play this with the scout. Good players will kill you very easily.
Anyway, check out the all new strat and send me any agreements or disagreements, you can either make them out as comments or tips. Comments I will add under the strat, tips I will add to the tips section

Scout's Corner
Half-Life has made my social life a no life. It killed what little was left of it.
I'd like to congratulate the guys at VALVE for doing such a great job on this game. It's one of the best, if not the best FPS I've seen. The only reason why I do not say it's the best, it does have some minor, and I repeat minor faults. If these are fixed with future patches, then in my book, this will be the best FPS I've ever played.

Added a new demo to the demos section. This one is of me playing well6 in Mega-TF. It's very good in showing different jumps to do with the jetpack. As there's not much SG killing and me fighting other people, I don't recommend you download this unless you want to learn how to use the jetpack better.

Site of the day
Today's site is the long over due (from being site of the day here) contaminated.net. Think of it as the PlanetQuake of Half-Life. It's actually on the same network as PlanetQuake, PlanetFortress e.t.c.

New tip today, from Biltong of Clan 30 plus (Clan 30+ that runs the old soldiers home? That server rules!).
The tip is on Mr. Caltrops. According to Biltong, the scout's best friend. After reading the tip, I almost agree with him, almost :).
If someone could make a demo of this tip, that would be very, very, very umm... good.

I think everyone should go there and buy all the long awaited games that have finally been released. SiN, Half Life, Trespasser, Shogo... to name a few.

No, I have not died. All those rumors are untrue.
After 23+ days I am finally back!

First off, I apologize to any of you that read this page frequently or somehow "depend" on it for your daily fix of scout dope ;).
Next, I will answer the question, WHY???
If you remember, before leaving, I said I will be away for a while. I was going to go offline and wait for my DSL to be hooked up. That was supposed to take a week or two and I would have been back before you realized anything had happened. Well, lets just say that that did not happen. And I will now never look at USWEST (let alone trust) the same way again. I badly want to put a few hundred words here describing my opinion of them, but I digress. (If you want an email of this, contact me :P)

Anyways, I am back now for good, or so I hope.
Things will get back to normal, well I hope they will anyway.

New tip in the tip section. This one's from DarkPaladin, telling how to kill various classes with the scout. And yes, you can kill them as the scout, if you don't believe me, let's 1on1.

Demos here, demos there, demos everywhere! Three, yes that's 3, new demos in the demo section. All are from Pepper. One is of the rock, and two are of the well. I watched them, and even if they were long, they were quite entertaining, and did show allot of educational type moves (for some).

Please stand by...
I will be away for about 1 to 2 weeks. This is due to me changing ISPs. I'm getting DSL :) I didn't want to pay an extra month on my old ISP incase I get the DSL sooner than when I expect it.

About the tournament. I am starting to have some doubts on whether to get this thing started at all. My problems are this: I don't have as much time as I need to run it. TF2 will be out soon, why not make a tourney for that instead.
The time thing I could probably work around, but the TF2 issue is what's bugging me. No use in starting a tourney just when TF2 is about to be released, is there?

The long awaited Well6 strat is finally here! (crowd cheers). Just added an excellent write up by Meph, and me to the map strategies page. Now we have 2fort5 and Well6.
We need two demos for the well6 strat. And one for the 2fort5 strat. The 2fort5 strat should be done in MEGA, and should show all the various places to jetjump.
The first Well6 demo should be done normally, it should show everything talked about in the strat. The second should be done in MEGA, and should show lots of jetjumps. If you have any questions on these, drop me a note. If you want to send them, zip em up as much as possible, then send them to me at [email protected]. Contents of the email should not be over 1MB. If it is, send me an email telling me so and give your ICQ number, or post them somewhere.

New demo on conc jumping! If you've ever wondered exactly what conc jumping is, or want to get some new ideas on ways to conc jump. Or if you have no clue on what to do with the next 10 minutes of your life... get this demo! It's at the demos page, link is to the right, over there... no a little more to the right... a little more... there!

Finally added members page. Doesn't look good at all right now. In fact I don't recommend you go there unless you're extremely bored.

Check out the PlanetQuake coverage of Quakeadelica. Make sure you get the demo of the final match between Thresh and Billox on q2dm1. Shows Thresh opening his can o whupass... 56 to 0 in favor of Thresh.

Scout's Corner
Just I was starting to completely forget about Quake2, a new mod comes out, Generations. Even though nothing will ever replace good old Quake DM, this mod comes as possibly close as you can get (on the Q2 engine). I don't like it as a replacement, but I just LOVE whupping the Q2 dude. It just makes my day!
It's also cool to play "Quake" (...as I said, it's not 100% like Quake...) with colored lighting and all the other advancements of Q2 in terms of graphics over Quake.

Lots of new things today:

First off, a new page has been started, the map specific strategy page. This page will soon be filled with strategies geared towards specific maps. All written exclusively for... you guessed it! The scout! Right now there's only one by Meph for 2fort5. Expect more soon! In the mean time, check the one for 2fort5 out. It's well written and has demos too. Meph spent some time on this one.

Second, we got a new tip from ]Fx[Slaughterer. Informing us more about that deadly class, the sniper (cue scary  music). It earned itself the "must see tip!" award, given only to very good tips.

Third, new demos! Two new demos that go along with Meph's 2fort5 strategy. One of them shows the silent lift drop in 2fort5. Which is sliding along the elevator shaft of 2fort5, and landing quietly without hurting yourself at all. Many people don't know this technique (even though they should!) so I suggest you check it out here.

Finally...

Tournament
The scout guild is in the midst of starting a scout only tournament. No details will be given yet on the rules and procedures. But believe me, it'll be something you've very likely never seen before! Stay tuned.

Today's site of the day is the newly launched Guild Central. The Scout Guild is it's official representative for scout guild... We are proud!

The Scout Guild is now invite only. We have closed it from applicants wishing to be guild members. I plan to have a roster of all the members up here either today or tomorrow.
We are now ready to work. We shall be starting various projects that shall be mentioned here in due time. Stay tuned!

Just added a new config to the configuration section. This cfg was submitted by Mephiston. It's a very useful cfg that any scout should have. What it basically does is use one button to cycle between the different scans (e.g. scan10, scan250 e.t.c.) then with the press of another button, it executes the selected scan. Check it out in the configuration section.

Today's site of the day is Spy Academy. One of the best (spy) sites around that I've seen. With some very good tips and tactics for the spy. Had allot of fun today, knifing snipers in the back. Nothing gives you more satisfaction then killing something with a pocket knife =)

Need Mappers
I am looking for mappers. I need people who have done TF maps before. They should be comfortable with the entities and be able to manipulate them. This is for a project which I plan to start soon. I don't really require experience, but if you haven't made any real maps before, you'll have to make one or two to demonstrate what you can do.

Need more members
We are still in need of more guild members. If you have the time and devotion, see the join page for more details. Right now we are still accepting almost anyone who applies. Soon we will close this and make this an invite only thing.

TF2
Just wanted to point out that this site will be around and covering TF2 as well as soon as it comes out. I'm mentioning this because some people didn't want to join the guild for fear of getting out of it (this guild) once TF2 comes out.
We won't be changing the name of the site. We plan on remaining true to the TF scout.

I am also thinking of another option: Leaving all the info on this site as it is, and be a Light Infantry only guild... This won't happen immediately ofcourse, as I am sure not everyone will be getting TF2 as soon as it comes out.
All this will be decided on soon. But we will definitely be going with TF2, one way or the other.

Changed the Configuration page quite a bit. I removed mine that was there before, "dominating" it as someone pointed out ;) Now there's a list similar to the one on the demo page. See the page for info on how to submit your own cfgs e.t.c.

Correction
I'd like to make a correction about yesterday's site of the day. It pointed to planetquake instead of planet fortress. I corrected it and it should work ok now. Thanks Mephiston.

The Scout Hut is a site dedicated to the TF scout. Much similar to this one. The difference being that this is a guild... It has been around longer than this one. Has some great tactics. Also has quite a lot of demos. A must see for all scouts.

For anyone who looked at the "Commando Scout" tip earlier today, it was only half of it. The author sent me the rest which I added. It clarifies a whole lot in my opinion. I was confused on what he meant (hehe).

New Page

Added several more tips to the tips section. I especially liked Octagon's response to the previous two SG killing tips. His is quite detailed, and in my opinion, sets things straight. I am considering making it into a strat on it's own. More on that later. Make sure to check out all the tips, they are very good.

Planning to add a demo section either today or tomorrow. First demo will be Octagon's 10 min demo showing allot of techniques. He basically plays on a server and does all kinds of things. Very nice.

Guild Members
Got a couple more members. I plan to add a roster very soon with all the current members. We still need more members though. Unfortunately, all the members that applied through the form seemed to have disappeared. They didn't reapply after I mentioned that the form was not working correctly. I guess this is good anyway though, it does show they had very little devotion to the site. Such people I would rather not have in the guild anyway.

I will start keeping this small section at the bottom of the news everyday. It is sorta like "Out of the Blue" at blue's news. If you have any suggestions on what I should call it instead, email me.
The banner is next to finished. All I need to do now is animate it. If anyone knows of a good freeware animator, please contact me. I used to have one a while back.

Changed the Sentry Guns strategy quite a bit. This is mostly due to the feedback I got on it. This will probably slowly happen with the other strats as well. That doesn't mean I will change it just because you tell me so, but probably because you convince me of a better way to do things.

So check out the new strat, and also check out the tips in the tip section.

About the banner
Right now, I will make my own. But I did get some offers to make me others later.
Still, if you would like to make me one, feel free to do so. I don't care much about how it looks right now, or what it says, but it should look good, and not be offensive to anyone. It should be 15k or less and 468x60.
Expect mine to be up here either tomorrow or Monday. Be warned, it will hurt your eyes if you are not used to seeing ugly things ;)

New Page
Just added a new page. The tips section. This is for posting small tips, strategies e.t.c. that are not big enough or detailed enough to be a full strategy on their own. They are submitted by other scouts. To whom I give credit. I will try not to edit it at all. But if there are any major things, I will correct them.

Allot of things going on with the site. Unfortunately I can't mention them right now.
I've contacted allot of the applicants and given them info. Hopefully we'll have official members in by next week. I am very pleased with the amount of people that applied. I thank all of you for applying, whether or not you make it.

I hope to have a message board up here very soon. I am having a little trouble with it, but hopefully it will be up this weekend.

Need banner
I need a banner for this site to add into the banner rotation program on PF. I could make one myself, but I'm not that good with graphics. If nobody offers to make one by Saturday, then I'll just have to make an ol' ugly one myself. Hope it doesn't hurt your eyes to look at it in all it's ugliness ;)

I'm sure most of you have this figured, but I'll mention it here anyway. You do not need to be in the guild to contribute to it. I do understand that many people are busy and don't have time for this type of stuff.
If you have a demo laying around of you scouting, or anything to do with scouting, please send it in. Feel free to send in anything else that you feel will be good for other scouts. Send here.

Terribly sorry for the lack of updates. I had some trouble with getting online at all.

I've gotten an incredible amount of people who signed up to join. I thank you all for your interest, and I will be contacting you one by one slowly, so please bare with me.

This is the Scout Guild. A place for scout's to share and gain knowledge through each other. We have many strategies up right now. And hope to get alot more added soon. Especially demos. The strategies are for the official TF with the MEGA-TF alternatives underneath.
